Warden, these are probably my last words, and I want you to be in a position to speak with certainty concerning any confession which in the future you may hear I have made. I want to say to you now that I am about to be executed. There was no more morphine in that woman as administered by me than there is in you at this moment. I suppose I am not the first innocent man to be executed.
